[Article] Celebrate The Three Years Spitting Fanzine!

Ha! Bulan September tahun 2008 ini, berarti tepat sudah tiga tahun Mellon Zine ada dan eksis (walaupun kadang kala suka setengah-setengah eksis-nya). Klise-nya, bakal saya bilang, tiga tahun bukan waktu yang sebentar untuk terus menulis dan menulis (dan proses lain selain mneulis tentunya), tapi sebaliknya, tiga tahun juga bukan waktu yang cukup lama dari kehadiran sebuah media alternatif ini. Hey, kalau kalian pikir saya menulis ini dalam rangka ulang tahun Mellon Zine, jangan salah sangka! Kami tidak pernah merayakan ulang tahun, karena tidak ada yang pernah memberi kami kado. Hahaha...

Sedikit kilas balik singkat, dulu saya (Jay) membuat fanzine ini dengan my bandmate, named Eko. We share the same passion in music, and willing to write about it. Maka jadilah kami membuat terbitan yang sangat lo-fi, diperbanyak dengan cara fotokopian, dan disebarkan di dalam kota. Lalu hadirlah teman-teman yang turut serta menggarap ini Fanzine; Jaka, Johan, Reno, Windy, so on. Haha… sampai akhirnya kita pernah mampu mencetak, hingga kover yang berwarna.

Tak terasa kalender sudah menuliskan angka 2008. Si Eko sudah punya pacar (Aihh…) dan sudah punya pekerjaan yang menyibukkannya, si Johan sedang sibuk srkipsi, si Jaka semakin pacaran mesum di kost-an,sambil memelihara kelinci yang diberi nama Tika dan si Reno sekarang menjaga distro sambil kuliah dan mencari cinta juga sentuhan wanita (sesekali kami masih nge-band, cuma nge-jam instrumentalia resah tidak tentu arah). Dari praktik social networking (bukan friendster, ataupun membobol privat foto friendster ;D), saya mengenal Ipung (known as Romanticpurple) yang bisa mengorganisir website, maka saya mulai putar haluan untuk berganti format ke dunia maya. We’re not gonna stop right here. Memang tidak mudah untuk tetap menjalankan fanzine ini agar tetap ada. Tapi, ini adalah apa yang kami kerjakan. We’re supporting good music. We’re supporting local act. Selama diluar sana masih banyak musik-musik bagus yang bertebaran, selama masih banyak karya seni bagus yang terpinggirkan, kami akan tetap hadir, bagaimanapun caranya (mendadak patriotis-melankolis, haha). Shot our vein with your glorious music, easy art, moron movie, cheap photography, odd pictorial, weird artwork, freshen spit, sticky blood, expensive beer, special sperm, low-life story, mighty pornography, or hell-whatever. That’s gonna strengthen us!

Ha! This September on 2008, it’s precisely, three years Mellon Zine have been exist (instead we are half-exist sometimes ;D). Cliché, I will say, three years not a quite short time to keep writing and writing (and other process beside writing of course), but also, three years is not quite a long time existence of this alternative media. Hey, if you think I write this down in the case of Mellon Zine’s birthday, don’t misunderstand! We never celebrate a birthday, because no one ever hand us a present. Hahaha…

A little bit flashback, me (Jay) made this fanzine with my bandmate, named Eko. We share the same passion in music, and willing to write about it. So we’ve done our first pressing that is very lo-fi, copied with copy-machine (Xerox) and distributed in the city. Then, came some fellas who join the party as the fanzine; Jaka, Johan, Reno, Windy, so on. Haha…. until, we ever printed the fanzine, with colored cover.

Somehow, the calendar has write down the number 2008. Eko already have a girlfriend (Ouchh…) and have a main job, that keep him busy, Johan is working on his final paper for his bachelor degree while flirting some chicks, Jaka is chronically dating his girl in his rented-room, pervert-ly, and keeping a pet (a rabbit) named Tika, and Reno is shopkeeping a shop while do a college and looking for lust and love (sometimes, we still make a jam in the studio, only some instrumentalist un-directed playing). From social networking practice (not friendster nor hacking private photos in friendster ;D) I know Ipung (known as Romanticpurple), who can organize a website, then I started to change the format into an internet-based magazine. We’re not gonna stop right here. It is not easy to run the fanzine and keep it still exists. But, this is what we do. We’re supporting good music. We’re supporting local act. As long as there are many good music outside, as long as many artwork being forgotten, we will still be there (patriotic-melancholic, suddenly, haha). Shot our vein with your glorious music, easy art, moron movie, cheap photography, odd pictorial, weird artwork, freshen spit, sticky blood, expensive beer, special sperm, low-life story, mighty pornography, or hell-whatever. That’s gonna strengthen us!
