[Interview] Whisperdesire Bubar! End of Story for the Indie Pop Band

Berita mengagetkan muncul dari bulletin di MySpace yang dikeluarkan oleh Whisperdesire. Bulletin berjudul Whisperdesire Akhiri Cerita itu menyatakan bahwa band pop asal Jakarta yang mulai menarik perhatian itu menyatakan bubar. Keputusan bubar ini diambil secara kolektif, dan resmi berakhir sudah kisah Whisperdesire. Berikut, hasil interview dengan Mikael Mirdad, gitaris Whisperdesire, berkaitan dengan keputusan bubar yang mereka ambil. Cari tahu kenapa, di bawah ini:

Bubar? Kenapa bubar?
Bubar adalah keputusan yang berat tapi terbaik karena keadaan di band ini sudah jauh berbeda sama waktu band ini terbentuk. Udah banyak yang berkembang dan menjurus ke banyaknya perbedaan juga. Selain itu aktivitas masing-masing diluar band ini cukup menyita waktu yang membuat band ini bukan lagi menjadi prioritas. Jadi kita berpikir daripada terus menjalankan tanpa ada 'nyawa', lebih baik kita mengakhiri di sini dan terus berjalan ke depan.

Keputusan ini mendadak, atau memang sudah dibahas sejak lama?
Keputusan kaya gini sempet terpikir mungkin dari setengah tahun yang lalu, cuma kita masih mencoba untuk terus mempertahankan. Sampai puncaknya sekitar bulan Juli kemaren, lalu kita memutuskan ini yang terbaik.

Tidak mungkinkah dipertahankan, atau vakum gitu?
Kita udah nyoba untuk mempertahankan cuma ternyata sulit. 'Kepala' kami masing-masing sudah engga ada band ini.

Apakah diantara kalian ada yang lanjut nge band lagi?
Hampir semuanya masih lanjut bermusik. Gw pribadi masih lanjut terus sama group sound-art performance gw 'Khuruksetra' (myspace.com/khuruksetra), Bindra dan Enrico punya project baru onetoomanyhundreds (myspace.com/onetomanyhundreds), lalu Inu masih bantuin Santamonica sebagai drummer additional mereka. Ga menutup kemungkinan juga kita akan main bareng lagi, hanya saja bukan dalam konteks musik whisperdesire.

Apa prestasi yang paling mengesankan bagi Whisperdesire selama ini?
Hampir semua mengesankan. Progres bermusiknya terus bertambah. Untuk lagu, mungkin gw paling bangga dengan 3 lagu terakhir yang hanya sempat direkam secara live recording yaitu 'Halu', 'Pesan', dan 'Titik Terang Dalam Sendiri'. Lagu-lagu itu materi untuk album penuh kita sebenarnya. sayang tidak sempat direkam secara benar. Apa yang akan kalian lakukan selepas Whisperdesire?
Doing our next project. Just wait for that!

Apa berarti visi bermusik udah jadi beda? atau bagaimana? Ada konflik internal kah?
Konflik internal ga ada. Band ini dibangun atas dasar pertemanan dan keputusan juga diambil bareng-bareng. Sampai sekarang kita juga masih sering ngumpul bareng. Sama sekali ga ada konflik-konflik seperti sinetron.

Kok bisa dikepala masing2 udah ga ada band ini? Apa sejak awal band ini memang tidak prioritas?
Justru awalnya band ini adalah prioritas. Semakin dewasa kita, semakin banyak akfitas-akfitias yang lain dan puncaknya tahun ini yang sebagian besar personel udah mulai kerja dan mengerjakan tugas-tugas akhir kuliah. Akhirnya prioritas bergeser.

Pasti bakal banyak yang bilang "sayang kalo bubar" gimana pendapat kalian?
Kita mengucapkan terimakasih untuk itu, berarti musik kita dan kerja keras kita selama ini diapresiasi oleh orang. Sekali lagi saya atas nama Whisperdesire mengucapkan terimakasih atas semua dukungannya selama ini.

Dengan pencapaian selama ini, Whisperdesire apa sudah memenuhi ekspektasi kalian, yang ada saat awal membuatnya dulu?
Kalau menuhin ekspektasi kita waktu pertama kali membentuk band ini sudah, karena waktu itu ekspektasi kita hanya untuk senang-senang. Benar-benar ga lebih. Dan band ini membawa banyak banget kesenangan. Cuma kalo ditanya menuhin ekspektasi kita setaun yang lalu jawabnya tidak. Kita belum sempat merilis full album, dan itu mungkin salah satu cita-cita yang ga kesampean.

Dengan pengalaman kalian, yang sudah sampai bubar ini (dimana tentu saja pengalaman yang berharga), ada tips yang bisa dibagi pada band-band lain?
Do and push it while you are really into it, and stop it when it is time to stop. As simply as that.

Joke apa yang sering muncul di internal Whisperdesire dikala membahas masalah bubar ini?
Terlalu banyak mungkin yang bisa disebutin. Dan kalaupun disebutin di sini juga pasti ga akan lucu karena yang ngerti lawakan lawakan itu ya cuma kita sendiri, haha.

Apa yang ingin diucapkan kepada para fans -yang pasti menyayangkan hal ini- dan pihak yang udah mendukung Whisperdesire selama ini?
Kita cuma bisa ngucapin terimakasih atas dukungannya selama ini dan mungkin minta maaf kalau keputusan ini terdengar sangat tiba-tiba dan ga menuhin ekspektasi kalian untuk terus berlanjut. Shocking news came from bulletin in MySpace, sent by Whisperdesire. Bulletin titled Whisperdesire Akhiri Cerita (Whisperdesire end their story-Red) said that the pop band based in Jakarta, that is start to rose, officially end the band. The decision is taken collectively, and the story of Whisperdesire is officially come to an end. Below, is an interview with Mikael Mirdad, the guitarist, about the decision to end the band. Finish off the band, why?
Finish off the band is a hard decision, but the best, because the situation in the band is much different with the first time the band was formed. There are many improvement that make some different too. Other than that, each person has its own activity that time consuming, and made the band not the priority anymore. So, we think, instead continuing the band without its soul, better finish off here, and go forward.

This is a sudden decision, or a long time consideration?
This decision, ever thought about this since half a year ago, but we tried to hang on. The climax is at July, so we decided to end this.

Are there any possibilities keep the band still stick, or a vacuum?
We've tried to stick on the band, but its hard then. Our "head" were not on the band anymore.

Are there any of you continuing doing something in music?
Most of us still play music. I still with my sound-art performance group, 'Khuruksetra' (myspace.com/khuruksetra). Bindra and Enrico have a new project, named onetoomanyhundreds (myspace.com/onetomanyhundreds). Inu still helping Santamonica as additional drummer. We might play together again, but not in whisper desire musical context.

What is the most remarkable achivement in Whisperdesire?
Most of all are remarkable. The musical progression is keep growing. For the songs, maybe I really proud of our last three songs, that is only live-recorded. The songs are 'Halu', 'Pesan', and 'Titik Terang Dalam Sendiri'. They are supposed to be the songs for our next full album. Sadly, the songs are not properly recorded. What will you doing after Whisperdesire?
Doing our next project. Just wait for that!

Is this mean, your musical vision is not match anymore? Or what? Any internal conflict?
No internal conflict. The band formed based on friendship, and the decision was taken together. We still hang out together till now. There's no such melodramatic-TV serial conflict.

How could, the band is not in your each "head"? Is the band not a priority from the beginning?
The band is the priority in the beginning. As we grow mature, there are many other activities, and this year, most of the personnel have to work and work on their college final paper. So, the priority is changing.

It must be much fans would say "it's very sad to end this" what do you say?
We say thanks to that, so our music is been appreciated by peoples. One more time, me, as Whisperdesire would say thank you for your support.

With the band's achievement till today, are you already fulfilled your expectation that came on the beginning when the band was formed?
Yes, in case fulfilling the expectation in the beginning, because in that time, the expectation is to have some fun. And the band is gives us so much fun. But, in case our expectation last year, the answer is no. We never released a full album yet.

With your such experience in a band, any tips to share?
Do and push it while you are really into it, and stop it when it is time to stop. As simply as that.

Are there any jokes that often come when you guys talk about the end of the band?
Too many to say. And, wether I say it here, it must be not funny, because nobody will understand the joke instead of us. Hahaha

What would you say to the fans, and other party that have been supporting Whisperdesire till the end?
We only can say thank you for the support, and may be, we are so sorry if the decision seems so sudden, and not fulfilling your expectation.
